Inglis Digital Success Northern Eyes Wins Four on the Trot

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 7

A $1.25million yearling colt by Zoustar, Northern Eyes didn’t make the grade as a sire prospect but the now four year-old gelding has hit a purple patch of form for his new trainer Kim Waugh after being snapped up on Inglis Digital for $155,000 in March this year and he brought his A game to Randwick on Saturday .

Sold as a maiden, Northern Eyes was spelled and gelded and it’s been full steam ahead since then for his new owners who include The Racing League and he sports the colours of the NSW Tycoons.

Northern Eyes broke his maiden at his second run in the new colours at Hawkesbury on August 1 and then won again at the same venue on August 13 before heading to Newcastle to win a 1500m Benchmark 68 on August 29.

He only does enough to win and he did just that again in the Midway Benchmark 72 event over 1400m giving everything he had for Tommy Berry to score by a head in a thriller.

Northern Eyes has the overall record of four wins and three placings from 11 starts with prizemoney just shy of $170,000.

Northern Eyes is the first winner for Group III winning Written Tycoon mare Sexy Eyes, who had a Farnan filly make $500,000 at Magic Millions this year for Milburn Creek when bought by Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

Zoustar made it a running double at Randwick when his progressive daughter Spring Lee won the next race taking out the Benchmark 78 event for mares over 1100m by a head.
