Another Expensive Yulong Mare Makes Australian Debut

Yulong made some huge investment at breeding stock sales in Europe last year on G1 winning mares with a couple of their headline horses Via Sistina (IRE) (2.7million guineas) and Place du Carrousel (IRE) (€4,025,000) already making their presence felt in Australian Group I races and today at Randwick we will see another in Poptronic (GB).

Poptronic was bought for 1.4million guineas from Tattersalls December Mares.

Purchased out of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale last year for 1.4million guineas, Poptronic went into that sale as a last start Group I winner having just taken out the Group I British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes over 2300m at Ascot.

She produced a career best performance that day to beat a big field of 14 and the runner-up Bluestocking has come out and won at Group I level this year.

Poptronic will run first up in the care of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in the Group II ATC Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m and has had the benefit of two trials, however has raced exclusively in staying races apart from a debut run as a two year-old when she finished second over 7f (1400m).

A consistent performer with five wins and four placings from 13 starts, Poptronic is by Galileo’s sire son Nathaniel from Alpine Angel, a winning daughter of fast juvenile Group II winner Infamous Angel, who is by champion Australian sire Exceed and Excel.
