Media Release - Wednesday September 4

Two NZ trial winners by exciting young sire Wyndspelle caught the eye yesterday (and one is already attracting interest from Hong Kong buyers).

3yo chestnut gelding 'My Wyndfall' (Wyndspelle x Foxy Brahma) trained by Johno Benner was stepping out at the trials for the first time and he did it in style by winning over 1000m at Awapuni.

Benner, who trained Wyndspelle throughout a career in NZ and Australia that saw a Group One win and seven Group One placings, was delighted with the run.

“There’s a lot of Wyndspelle about this horse,” he commented.

“He’s a great type, relaxes beautifully as we saw today, has plenty of courage and he’s very easy to train and ride.”

Further south at Riccarton, 3yo bay gelding 'Wanderin’ Spelle' (Wyndspelle x Wanderin’ Over) won first up over 1200m.

Trainer Ross Beckett summed his charge up immediately after the trial.

“ Wanderin Spelle is a stable favourite with everyone.

“He’s a lovely big 16.2h gelding with a long scopey stride. he’s got the big storming finish as we saw today, he’s laid back, takes everything in his stride and is very easy to handle. Spelle is a real pleasure to have in the stable, he loves his work and we’re confident he will go a long way.

“He’s already attracted interest from Hong Kong, so that’s a good indication of what he’s been showing us,” he added.

Wyndspelle (Iffraaj(GB)x Western Star (NZ) stands at Victoria’s Wyndholm Park Stud, Miners Rest, with a 2024 service fee of $6,600 (live foal guarantee and free return).
