€730,000 Sea the Stars Filly Tops Arqana Day 2

Following an afternoon at Deauville races that saw the running of the Group II Prix de Pomone and Prix du Calvados,  buyers returned to the sales ring for the second session of the August Yearling Sale.

Following the first two days of the sale, 215 yearlings have gone under the hammer with a 76% clearance rate and an average of €215,141, generating a turnover of €35,805,000.

€730,000 for a daughter of Sea The Stars

Eagerly awaited in the ring on the second day of the sale, a daughter of Sea The Stars (lot 187) consigned by Haras de Castillon was subject to interest from a number of buyers. The gavel finally fell at €730,000 in favour of the American agents Alex Solis and Jason Litt for the filly from the close family of the European Champion Four-Year-Old THE FUGUE and Group 1 winners SUMMONER, COMPTON ADMIRAL and LIMATO.

“Sea The Stars in an incredible stallion, and we’re delighted to have bought this filly,” said Jason Litt. “We’re having dinner tonight to discuss the various possibilities for her future. As you know, it’s all about dreaming and hopefully we’ll be there to see her win a big race in the next few years!”

Son of New Bay sells for €620,000

Écurie des Monceaux consigned a son of New Bay out of the black-type mare LADY LIGHT (lot 192) for which Sébastien Desmontils (Chauvigny Global Equine) went to €620,000. The well-bred colt hails from the family of Group 1 scorers BATTAASH and BRAASHEE, as well as the very talented TASLEET, THE ANTARTIC and ADAM SMITH.

“We saw the colt at the stud and liked him from the off, which was the case once more when we saw him at the sale. He has a stallion’s pedigree, and his sire is a stallion that we like a lot. He comes from a great family and we’re very happy,” he said.

€550,000 for half-sister by St Mark's Basilica to FEED THE FLAME and SACRED LIFE

A little earlier in the day, the gavel fell at €550,000 in favour of Al Shaqab Racing, already very active during yesterday’s session, for a filly from the first crop of St Mark’s Basilica (lot 178) from Écurie des Monceaux. The well-bred filly is none other than a half-sister to Group 1 scorer FEED THE FLAME and multiple Group winner SACRED LIFE, both of which are also August Yearling Sale graduates.

“She’s a beautiful filly,” said Mohamed Abdulrahman Al Mansour. “She comes from a great family that includes the top performers Feed The Flame and Sacred Life. St Mark’s Basilica was a fantastic racehorse and we’re happy to buy from his first crop.”

€550,000 Dubawi Colt for John Stewart

After buying the top lot on the first day for €1,4 million, John Stewart (Resolute Racing) came to the fore once again when buying a son of Dubawi (lot 233) for €550,000. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, the colt hails from the family of MAGIC WAND, CHICQUITA, PACIFIQUE and PHILOMENE.

Anthony Stroud strikes for €520,000.Too Darn Colt

Hot Consigned by Haras de Saint Pair, a son of Too Darn Hot (lot 166) was knocked down for €520,000 to Anthony Stroud (Stroud Coleman Bloodstock). Out of the Listed winner and Classic runner-up IRISH ROOKIE, the colt hails from the family of Group winners EXHIBIT ONE, MAITRES D’ART and ZARINSK.
