First Winner for Ghaiyyath

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 15

Standing again at Darley Victoria this spring, 2020 European Horse of the Year Ghaiyyath (IRE) is on the board with his first winner after Stanhope Gardens scored an easy victory at Beverely in the UK overnight.

Trained by Ralph Beckett and ridden by Rossa Ryan, Stanhope Gardens improved on his debut third at Sandown last month to race clear and win the 7 ½ f maiden by more than two lengths. He holds an entry for the Group II Royal Lodge Stakes next month.

“I was very impressed with how Stanhope Gardens did it. He's learned a lot from Sandown. I thought when my lad got to the front he'd half prick his ears but actually, when I gave him a dig in the belly, he picked up and quickened,” said Rossa Ryan.

“He didn't ease off the accelerator until I let him, so that was a great sign. He took a lot of pulling up after so going up another furlong will be no problem in time. It kind of amused me how much he's copped on to the job from his run the last day and I'd be disappointed if he didn't improve again.”

Stanhope Gardens made 210,000 guineas at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2.

Stanhope Gardens was bought by Chelsea Thoroughbreds / Jamie McCalmont Bloodstock for 210,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Book 2 Yearling Sale after selling for €82,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale.

He is the third winner from three foals to race from stakes-placed Pure Art, a half-sister by Dutch Art to Group I placed stakes-winner Romsdal. Third dam Pure Grain was the 1995 Champion 3YO Filly winning the Group I Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks.

By champion sire Dubawi, Ghaiyyath is back in Australia at a fee of $27,500 for his fourth season and his top selling Australian yearlings from this year’s sales are listed below.
