Hellbent 2YO Wins by Five

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 22

Yarraman Park’s Hellbent has had an outstanding season and it’s not done yet with his two year-old colt Warparty thrashing the opposition to win by five and a half lengths at Seymour on Monday.

Trained by Shane Nichols, Warparty appreciated a drop in class and distance coming back to a 1300m juvenile maiden after his last run in the Listed VRC Taj Rossi Series Final at 1600m.

With Jordan Childs in the saddle, he relished the heavy ground to lead all the way and win in a breeze.

“He got there so easily when he landed in front and then got them all off the bridle and had them chasing from a long way out,” said Shane Nichols.

“With two year-olds when they are chasing one that is that far ahead they get a bit over it, but it was good to see such a dominant performance as he’s been showing us a lot before today.”

A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Vinery Stud draft, Warparty is the third winner from three foals to race from Tremezzina, a metro winning half-sister to stakes-winner Testamezzo.

A yearling full sister to Warparty was bought by Morton Racing for $50,000 at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale this year.

It's been a benchmark season for Hellbent with two G1 winners Magic Time and Benedetta.

Hellbent has sired 93 winners of $10.8million this season making him the leading third crop sire by earnings and he stands this spring at a fee of $38,500.
