Group I Goals for Juddmonte 2YO Fillies

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 22

The all powerful Juddmonte Farms breeding operation produced a pair of homebred two year-olds fillies to win at the Curragh overnight that look to be Group I performers of the future.

The Ger Lyons trained Kodiac filly Babouche made it two wins from two starts when she beat Wootton Bassett colt Camille Pissaro to win the Group III Anglesy Stakes (6 ½ f) by half a length.

“Babouche has been really switched off since she won at Cork and she really has the temperament. She parked when she got to the front and hopefully she can improve. She will need to in order to keep going forward as the Phoenix Stakes (G1) is the plan,” said Ger Lyons.

The 99th stakes-winner for Kodiac, Babouche is a full sister to multiple Group winner Zarinsk and is the second stakes-winner among six winners from stakes-winning Arch mare Pavlosk.

Also trained by Ger Lyons, Frankel filly Red Letter is an imposing individual and improved off a close second on debut to blitz her rivals in the 7f maiden winning by four lengths.

“Red Letter did what we probably expected. She stepped forward nicely from her debut. We will see how she comes out of it. It's just raw ability at the moment,” said Ger Lyons.

“She will tell me where we go with her, whether she comes back for the Moyglare (G1) or something like that.”

Both fillies were ridden by Colin Keane.

Red Letter is the first winner for Red Impression, a stakes-placed Dark Angel, whose dam is a half-sister to Group I winner Etoile Montante.

The Frankel x Dark Angel nick has had eight winners from 10 runners with this season’s stakes-winning two year-old filly Bedtime Story the first stakes--winner bred this way.
