Star Pierro Colt to Target Group One Success

Tom Walter - Tuesday January 16

Is there amore promising horse in Australia than Pierata at the minute?.

Pierata wins the MM 3YO GuineasSome have already pegged him Group I class, and after his triumph in last Saturday's Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) few would disagree.

Trainer Greg Hickman told Sky Sports Radio on Monday that stud tycoons have already come knocking for the Pierro colt, whose earnings now total more than $1.48 million from just eight starts.

But it's Pierata's future on the racetrack that has Hickman beaming with excitement.

"I think he can do anything this horse. He thinks he's pretty good at the moment," Hickman said.

"We've just got to wait for him to strengthen up."

Hickman said the colt's voracious appetite, a common trait seen in top class horses, could have seen him "go around again tomorrow".

"It's incredible. He always has his head in the feed bin," he said.

"Sunday morning he licked the bin out and I had to give him extra.

"Then we took him out for a walk and a pick around the canals. And there were kids on bikes and people around but all he wanted to do was pricks his ears, have a look and get back to his tucker."

Sydney autumn features like the Group I Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Group I Doncaster Mile (1600m) now loom large for Pierata.

"I think we could find a nice Group I mile race somewhere for him," Hickman said.

"Corey (Brown – jockey) has always said he's a Group I horse so we've got to look at those sorts of races."
