Kingman Group Treble - Sire on Fire

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 15

Last week we highlighted the deeds of Kingman, whose Group I winning son King Colorado stands his first season at Widden Victoria this spring, and over the weekend the Juddmonte Farm based sire was in hot form siring a treble of new Group winners.

On Saturday in the UK, Kingman sired unbeaten rising star four year-old Quddwah to win the Group II Anne Cowley Memorial Summer Mile (1m) and four year-old handicap stayer Alsakib ramped it up a notch to win the Group III York Silver Cup (1m6f) .

Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, Quddwah won his only two starts last year and has now won his first two starts this year in Black Type races with a tilt at the Group I Goodwood Sussex Stakes his likely next target.

“He never does much in front and is still a bit immature, but he’s learning to race now and he’s got tons of ability,” said Ed Crisford after bookmahers cut his price to 10-1 for the Sussex Stakes on July 31.

“He travels extremely well and put the race to bed pretty quickly really and was always doing enough in front, even though he idles a bit.

“I think there’s plenty more to come; he’s unbeaten, he’s only had four runs in his life and I think a stronger pace will suit him.

“We’ll have to see what Sheikh Ahmed (owner) wants, but he’s in the Prix Jacques le Marois as well and that is an option.”

The Andrew Balding trained Alsakib will target more staying features after gaining his first Black Type win in the York Silver Cup taking his overall record to five wins from 11 starts.

Alsakib is a half-brother to Group winners Nyaleti, Stellar Path and Weary, who campaigned in Australia with multiple Group I placings.

Bringing up the treble for Kingman on Sunday in France was three year-old filly Blush, who won the Group III Prix Chloe (1700m) at Chantilly to claim her first Black Type victory with four wins from seven starts.

A homebred for Wertheimer & Frere, the Carlos Laffon-Parias trained Blush scored in a thriller and has won four of seven starts. She is the 84th lifetime stakes-winner for Kingman and is his 12th worldwide in 2024.

The only son of Kingman at stud in Australia is the Widden Victoria based Group I winner King Colorado, priced at $16,500.
