Churchill 3YO Wins Five from Six

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 13

The last race at Randwick on Saturday produced a vintage ride from Nash Rawiller, who charted a scenic route after choosing a passage down the outside of the straight for talented Churchill (IRE) three year old gelding South of India, who arrived in plenty of time to win.

Trained by Ross McConville at Kembla, South of India has had a very productive year. Beaten on debut when finishing sixth at Kembla last July, he has not been defeated since.

South of India broke his maiden at Newcastle in January before reeling off subsequent wins at Wyong, Hawkesbury and Scone before heading into town. He kept his picket fence in place for 2024 when powering to the line to win the 1000m Benchmark 78 event by more than a length.

South of India was bred and raced by his trainer and has now won five of six starts banking over $180,000 in prizemoney.

He is the second winner from Minnesota, a winning Snitzel mare that traces back to stakes-winner Captiva.

Churchill is back in Australia this spring for Coolmore at a fee of $19,800.
