Encryption Filly Data Scramble Surprises On Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday July 10

The 2-year-old Encryption filly Data Scramble came with a barnstorming finish to make a winning career debut in the Teddy Bears Picnic 3 August Maiden Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Ridden by Jake Bayliss for Jack Bruce, Data Scramble had just one of her ten opponents behind her straightening before launching down the centre of the track to edge out the rallying favourite Mistwr Blaco (Zousain). Bolshevic Road (Russian Revolution) was two lengths back in third.

The winner is a homebred for Grania McAlpine, Anabelle Raff, and Les Robins, making it even sweeter for Jack Bruce.

“Thank you, Grania McAlpine and the team, for sending her my way. They are famous colours, and I grew up watching Tinto win an Oaks, so it’s good to win one in these colours,” Jack Bruce said.

“It was a good win, and she had to do it the hard way. She got back and had to make a wide run with nothing to take her into the race.

“It was her first start, and she is still a green filly, but she equipped herself well.

“There is not much of her, and she is still learning what to do. She is far from the furnished article."

Data Scramble is a sister to Mystic Mac, who finished second at Doomben in his last two starts.

He is the second foal of the unraced Spirit Of Boom mare Ah La Boom, a half-sister to Group 1 Queensland Oaks heroine Tinto (Red Dazzler), the dam of stakes-placed Teranga (Sebring).

Paul Nolan Jnr shelled out $22,000 for Ah La Boom’s Better than Ready colt consigned by Eureka Stud to the 2024 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.

Ah La Boom has a weanling brother to Data Scramble and was covered by Top Ranked (IRE) last spring.

Data Scramble is the third 2-year-old winner of the season for Eureka Stud’s royally bred Lonhro stallion Encryption, which stands for $11,000 in 2024.
