One to Watch – Sale

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 4

Bred to be an Oaks filly, this Kiwi bred two year-old filly made a winning debut at Sale on Thursday carrying the famous Pride of Jenni colours.

Trained by Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans, Jenni Multabella was well fancied to win the 1106m juvenile maiden and galloped straight past the Godolphin Lonhro colt Polyglot to win by more than a length running away.

A $130,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from Cambria Stud for Tony Ottobre’s Cape Schanck Stud, Jenni Multabella is by Victoria Derby winning sire Ace High from a female family steeped in stamina, so to win first up over a sprint trip has connections a little bit excited.

“It’s a relief to see her win, Tony and Lynn (Ottobre)  have given Lucy and I a couple of nice fillies and it’s a pleasure to have her in the yard,” said Lloyd Kennewell.

“She’s shown us very good ability from day one and this is way below the distance we hope she can be winning at further on.

“More than likely it will be a won and done run prep and she can get ready for the spring as we thinks she is a pretty good quality filly.”

Jenni Multabella was a $130,000 K1 purchase.

Jenni Multabella is the third winner from three foals to race from La Belle Beel, a placed half-sister by Zabeel to stakes-winner Intercept from the family of Group I VRC Victoria Derby winner Second Coming, who also won a Group I Wellington Cup at 3200m and was placed in a Melbourne Cup.

Her sire Ace High has made a pleasing start to his stud career and with his oldest progeny just three year-olds has sired Group I NZ 1000 Guineas winner Molly Bloom.
