One to Watch – Scone

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 2

So You Think doesn’t get a lot of debut two year-old winners, but he got one at Scone on Tuesday and the talented colt credited the new training partnership of John O’Shea and Tom Charlton with a winner from their first runner.

A homebred for Segenhoe, Bartolf has shown nice ability in two recent trials and went to the post as favourite for the 1200m juvenile maiden with Andrew Adkins in the saddle.

Given time to find his feet from an outside draw, Bartolf was eased back to come across behind runners and then coming to the turn was forced wide to make his run. He worked through his gears and hit the line full of running in the heavy ground to win by more than a length.

“I was full of confidence after I worked him on Saturday morning,” said Andrew Adkins.

“He’s got a great attitude and clean action. I was really proud of his effort today.”

A homebred for Segenhoe, Bartolf is a half-brother to Group III winner Jal Lei and is the fourth winner from five foals to race from metro winning Exceed and Excel mare Lesley’s Choice, a daughter of Group III winner Fumble.

Segenhoe sold a yearling full brother to Bartolf at Magic Millions this year for $180,000 to Curran Bloodstock.

Lesley’s Choice missed in 2022, so had no foal last year and was covered by Zoustar last spring.

So You Think has sired 120 winners this season of over $20million in prizemoney putting him fourth on the Australian General Sires List by earnings with his star performers Everest winner Think About It and the now retired Group I winner Think It Over.

The champion son of High Chaparral stands at Coolmore at a fee of $77,000.
