Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 1

There were some interesting juveniles in action at the Warwick Farm trials on Monday morning with Ciaron Maher saddling three unraced blue blood fillies that all won heats, two of them by champion sire I Am Invincible and the third from his champion daughter Loving Gaby.

First to salute was $1.1million Inglis Easter purchase Sensational Wind, who was having her second trial and improved on a first up fourth last month to power home out wide and win by the best part of a length with Jason Collett sitting quietly in the saddle.

Bred by Go Bloodstock and consigned by Segenhoe, Sensational Wind was bought by Katsumi Yoshida and is a half-sister by I Am Invincible to stakes-placed Transatlantic being the third foal from Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Gust of Wind, who famously defeated Winx when scoring her career defining win.

In the next trial, Maher sent out Qatar’s Choice, who was having her fourth trial and second this prep. She travelled on the fence behind the leaders and when angled into the clear surged to the line held together to win by a long head.

A $950,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Arrowfield for  Ciaron Maher Bloodstock / David Redvers Bloodstock, Qatar’s Choice runs in the colours of Qatar Bloodstock and a syndicate of stable clients and is a half-sister to Group III winner Williamsburg from Group I winning High Chaparral (IRE) mare Fenway, a grand-daughter of Group I winning blue hen Joie Denise.

The Champion 3YO Filly of 2019/2020, I Am Invincible filly Loving Gaby was a star for the Ciaron Maher stable winning over $2.2million in prizemoney with highlight G1 wins in the MVRC Manikato Stakes and William Reid Stakes and her first born is Pierata filly Just Like Gaby.

Whether she can justify her name remains to be seen, but she did improve sharply on her first trial last month when she was asked for little and trailed in last of 10. This time she was put into contention albeit travelling wide and found the line well to win by more than a length over the handy Godolphin filly Pinito, who placed at her first two starts in town last prep.

Recorded as an $800,000 Magic Millions purchase from Segenhoe for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock, she runs in the colours of her breeder Phoenix Thoroughbreds, who also raced her mother. Loving Gaby had a Snitzel filly sell for $400,000 at Magic Millions this year for Kennewell Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) and she is back in foal to Snitzel again.

Additional heat winners were: Houdini Spirit (Harry Angel (IRE), Imposing Pier (Pierata) and Chidgey (Capitalist).
