First Season Sire Battle – Deep Field Takes the Edge

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 12
It's neck and neck at the top in the battle to be leading first season sire by average at the 2018 Magic Millions Yearling Sale with Newgate Farm's Deep Field taking a small margin over his barn mate Dissident after the first two sessions.

A Group II winning son of Northern Meteor, Deep Field is the most represented sire at this sale and his stock have been in hot demand.

Top seller for him on Thursday was Cressfield Stud's filly (above) from stakes-winner Shoboard that made $650,000 when secured by China Horse Club and Alan Bell, who also bought and raced Deep Field.

Dissident's best result on Thursday was a filly (above) from Sunset Rock offered by Segenhoe Stud that made $260,000 when bought by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/ David Redvers Bloodstock.

Coolmore's Rubick continued to perform well with a filly from Slainte fetching $250,000 for Willow Park Stud when knocked down to MiRunners Racing No 1.

The sale continues.
