The 3-year-old Roger Barows colt Orchid Romance (JPN) broke through his maiden stakes success in Sunday’s Listed Paradise Stakes (1400m) at Tokyo Racecourse.
Ridden by Hiroyuki Uchida for Takahisa Tezuka, Orchid Romance repelled the challenge of Lord Kanaloa's 7-year-old Meisho Titan by a length, with the 4-year-old Rulership colt Hrimfaxi one and a half lengths back in third.
A half-brother to stakes-placed, 4-time winner Juniper Berry (Gold Ship), Orchid Romance is out of the talented Snitzel mare Echinacea (JPN), who credited the Arrowfield Stud champion with his 32nd stakes-winner as a broodmare sire.
Snitzel shuttled to Japan for two seasons, and Echinacea (JPN) follows the stakes-placed Snitzel mare Rurinigana (JPN), the dam of the dual Listed winner Verdad Imeru Orfevre.
With placings in the Group II Keio Hai Nisai Stakes, Group III Falcon Stakes, and Listed Crocus Stakes, Orchid Romance advances his record to three wins, two seconds and two thirds from 10 starts with earnings of $804,000.
