Blueblood Camelot Stayer Wins Winter Cup

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 15

There is no better bred stayer in Australia than Camelot gelding Sir Lucan (IRE) and while he can mix his form, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained six year-old brought his A game to Rosehill on Saturday to win the Listed ATC Winter Cup (2400m).

Backing up after a below par showing in last Saturday’s Listed ATC Lord Mayor’s Cup, Sir Lucan reversed the form with a dominant victory for Adam Hyeronimus over the favourite Hopeful (Fr).

“It’s important to get the first half of the race right and when he finds that rhythm he does have a good turn of foot,” said Hyeronimus.

Sir Lucan has the overall record of four wins and four placings from 23 starts, the bulk of his success coming after leaving Ireland where he was a Listed winner for Aidan O’Brien.

Sir Lucan is a full brother to ill-fated Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet (IRE) and half-brother to Group II winner Les Pavots from Group III placed Oasis Dream mare Sparrow, a grand-daughter of Arc winning blue hen Urban Sea, the dam of champion sires Galileo and Sea the Stars among her eight winners that were all stakes-winners!
