More Segenhoe MM Stars Ready to Shine – Part Two

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 8
Segenhoe Stud under the ownership of Kevin Maloney and stewardship of Peter O'Brien has been selling at Magic Millions since 2014 and having sold Magic Millions 2YO Classic place-getters Nikitas (second in 2016) and Madeenaty (third in 2017) there is an air of expectation that their draft is overdue to produce the winner.

Group I winner Eagle Way was sold by Segenhoe"We always try to bring some nice two year-old types to the Gold Coast and that is reflected in our success," said Peter O'Brien.

"We sold Witherspoon last year and she's been stakes-placed at her last two starts, so will take her place in the big race and we wish her connections the very best of luck."

Two year-olds aside, Segenhoe have built up an impressive list of stakes graduates in the past three years headed by outstanding colt Merchant Navy, winner of the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes in the spring and Eagle Way, winner of the Group I BRC Queensland Derby in 2016.

Other notable Segenhoe graduates include South African based Ektifaa, El Divino, Taking Aim and All Too Hard's smart stakes-winner Curdled, who is running in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

"We are also looking forward to the autumn with So You Think filly Impulsive, who Chris Waller believes could be a Group 1 filly in the making," O'Brien added.

Segenhoe Stud will present 19 yearlings at Magic Millions 2018 with a selection of highlights below with comments from Peter O'Brien:

Lot 371 Filly Snitzel x Swiss Rose, by Thorn Park

Beautiful low slung filly who looks sharp and early like her stakes winning mother. She looks the ideal type for the race next year.

Lot 473 Colt Fastnet Rock x A Million Tears, by Street Cry (IRE)

Big, strong, quality colt from a terrific family and looks like he will run early. He reminds me of Merchant Navy as a yearling.

Lot 506 Colt Choisir x Apparel, by Barathea (IRE)

A colt I really like and very much physically a two year old type as well as on pedigree being from the great Dream Appeal family and he looks so much like Danehill it is extraordinary.

Lot 661 Colt Dissident x Diamond Glow, by Bel Esprit

As good a looking a horse as you would wish for from a current family and is great advertisement for the sire. He is more of a guineas type but definitely mature enough to run at two.

Lot 686 Colt I Am Invincible x Electric Dreams, by Redoute's Choice

One of the best looking horses I have ever taken to a sale and exudes quality and balance. He looks like he would fly early and is again bred with the Canny Lad double cross as carried by I Am Invincible's Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Houtzen.

Come and see our horses at Stable C1-3, 19-26, D1-7.
