Castelvecchio Breaks the Ice

Mark Smith - Monday June 3

Making her fifth start, the 2-year-old filly Sweet Treats took on her elders when successful in the Semco Maiden Plate (1500m) at Goulburn to have the honour of crediting Castelvecchio with his first winner.

Ridden by Coriah Keatings for Danielle Seib, Sweet Treats jumped in the air at the start before pushing through to be in a challenging position on the turn. Keeping up a strong gallop, Sweet Treats safely held the challenge of Devgru (Merchant Navy) by one-and-a-quarter lengths, with the favourite Bounty By Knight (Knight Exemplar) in third.

Sweet Treats a $72,500 MM National Sale weanling

A $55,000 buy for  LTD Thoroughbreds at the 2022 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, Coconut Dream is out of the stakes-placed Snitzel mare Sweetener, a half-sister to Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes winner Secret Agenda and stakes-placegetters Tutta la Vita, Stellar Pauline, Donandkim, and to the dam of Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner, Enthaar.

Infinity Thoroughbreds consigned a Pride of Dubai half-sister to Sweet Treats at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which failed to make her $100,000 reserve.

Coconut Dream has a weanling filly by Stay Inside and was covered by Sidestep last spring.

The sire of Listed ATC Fernhill Hcp runner-up El Castello, dual Group 1 winner Castelvecchio (Dundeel), stands at Arrowfield Stud for $22,000 in 2024.
