New G3 Winner for Starspangledbanner

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 2

The Epsom Derby card featured a number of stakes races including the Group III Princess Elizabeth Stakes (1m ½ f) won by talented four year-old Starspangledbanner mare Breege.

Trained by John and Sean Quinn, Breege was consistent in Group and Listed races last season without winning and was overdue for a Black Type victory.

Third in a Listed race at her first run back this year, Breege improved for Jason Hart to find plenty under pressure and win by a neck taking her overall record to two wins and seven placings from 13 starts.

“She’s a filly that was running at the highest level last year, she was placed at Royal Ascot and just touched off in the Whispering Angel at Glorious Goodwood,” said John Quinn.

“She ran well all last year and ran really well on her comeback this season at Goodwood, beaten two short heads.

“As long as she is OK she will run in the Group Two fillies’ race at Royal Ascot, the Duke of Cambridge, all being well.”

Breege is a homebred for Chasemore Farm and is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Starspangledbanner’s Group I winner The Wow Signal. She is the best of two winners from Wowcha, a winning half-sister by Zoffany to Group I winner The Wow Signal and also Group winners Matrika and Unicorn Lion as well as stakes-winner Miss Infinity.

Breege is the 41st stakes-winner for Starspangledbanner, who stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $44,000.
