$1.8million for Mariamia - $18,000 Yearling Now a Sale Ring Star

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 29

She won the Group I ATC The Galaxy (1100m) last year and lightning fast Toronado (IRE) mare Mariamia was back in the spotlight at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Wednesday when selling for $1.8million.

G1 winning Toronado (IRE) mare Mariamia sold for $1.8million.

Bred by Adam Sangster, Mariamia came from humble beginnings making just $18,000 for Swettenham Stud at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale Book 2 in 2018 before earning her stripes on the track during her early years in Victoria with Shane Stockdale when she showed the promise of better to come.

Newhaven Park bought the mare through Inglis Digital in March of 2022 for $335,000 and sent her to Joe Pride which proved a master stroke.

Retired to stud at the end of last season, Newhaven Park sent her to I Am Invincible and offered Mariamia in foal to the champion sire on an early service date at the Gold Coast with Zhijun Zhao the purchaser at $1.8million, so she will join the stampede of top class mares headed to Yulong in Victoria.
