Super Seth Colt Makes Winning Debut

Mark Smith - Thursday May 23

Stylish 2-year-old Super Seth colt Supernima made the perfect start to his career with a fighting win in the Falcone & Adams Maiden Plate at Pakenham.

Ridden by Carleen Hefel for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Supernima travelled three wide with cover and enjoyed a trouble-free run down the straight, unlike a few of her rivals. The $101 chance Dollar Shot held second ahead of the well-supported Showtime colt Just For Show, who had a checkered run before notching his third consecutive third.

Carleen Hefel said Superinima travelled like the winner.

“When I straightened up, he just felt like he was going to win,” she said.

“His trials haven’t been that bad. He is a really nice horse.

“ He gave me a nice feel going to the gates. He tended to lay in through greenness, so I switched (the whip) to the left and that horse coming up on his inside (Just For Show) helped him.

“He will only get better and learn a lot from that race.”

An $80,000 purchase for Dalziel Bloodstock / Moody Racing from the Woburn Farm draft at the 2023 NZB Karaka Book 1 Yearling Sale, Supernima is a half-brother to the Group III winners Tomelilla (Tavistock) and Viktor Vegas (Tavistock).

He is the sixth winner from seven to race for the unraced Dubai Destination mare Purnima, whose stakes-winning dam Andrella (Dehere) is a three-quarter sister to St. Therese, the dam of Castelvecchio, Maid Of Heaven, and Mirrasalo.

Curraghmore consigned an Almanzor x Purnima colt to Karaka in January, which K A Pertab / C Cole purchased for $110,000.
