Snitzel Filly Lazzura Stays Perfect in Woodlands Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 18

Lazzura surprised the stable on debut when defeating the next start winner Megastar Heart at Kembla Grange, but the daughter of Snitzel was backed as if unbeatable in Saturday's $200,000 Listed Arrowfield Woodlands Stakes (1100m) at Scone.

Ridden by Tommy Berry for Chris Waller, Lazzura still had plenty to do on straightening. She displayed an impressive turn of foot and looked set for an easy win but found a willing opponent in the Written Tycoon filly Satin Stiletto.

Lazzura kept her record at a perfect two for two by a head with the winner's stablemate, Let's Go Barbie (Yes Yes Yes), back in third.

A $500,000 purchase for B2B Thoroughbreds from the Arrowfield Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Lazzura is the third winner from as many to race for the Heart's Cry mare Laguna Azzurra (JPN).

Arrowfield consigns Laguna Azzurra's The Autumn Sun colt to the National Yearling Sale (lot 1348), while Lazzura's stakes-placed half-sister Portorosa (Not A Single Doubt) is in the Attunga Stud draft heading to the National Broodmare Sale (lot 516).

A winner in Japan, Laguna Azzurra (JPN) is a half-sister to multiple Group III winner Seewind (Deep Impact) and stakes-placed winner Seidig Meer (Zenno Rob Roy) out of the 3-time Listed stakes-winner, Silky Lagoon (Brian's Time).

Laguna Azzurra (JPN) was covered by Snitzel last spring after missing in 2022.

Lazzura is the 143rd stakes-winner for Snitzel and his fourth 2-year-old stakes-winner of the season.
