Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 16

There were seven heats won by juveniles at the Randwick trials on Thursday morning that included some expensive unraced youngsters and we also had a look at Group I ATC Champagne Stakes winner Broadsiding, who obviously has the Group I BRC JJ Atkins next month in his sights.

The James Cummings trained Broadsiding was having his first public outing since his Group I victory and he hit the line with a rush to finish a close second in his 1045m trial behind unraced blueblood I Am Invincible filly I Found You.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, I Found You was having her second trial and looks to have nice ability as she should given her price and pedigree.

A $1.3million Inglis Easter purchase for China Horse Club from the Cressfeld draft, she is a half-sister to Group I winner Shooting to Win, Group II winner Deep Field and stakes-winner Zaniah being from blue hen Listen Here, who made $3.4million at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

The Waterhouse Bott stable have had a sensational season with their two year-olds and one of their stars at the early season trials last year was Lady Tassort. She led the field in the Gimcrack and only faded over the final furlong to finish seventh to Manaal beaten two and a half lengths and looked fast and sharp this morning winning her 737m heat by three lengths.

A $40,000 Inglis Weanling Sale purchase for Tracey Rook of Red Fox Racing, Lady Tassort looms as another likely winner for her exciting young sire Tassort before season’s end.

Two expensive Snitzel colts trained by Peter and Paul Snowden went to the line together in this heat turning in very similar performances. Unraced Manos is from Champion South AFrican Sprinter Carry on Alice (SAf) and Everybody Rise is a full brother to Group I winning sire Russian Revolution.

Everybody Rise has had one start which was a third last year behind a very fast two year-old in Spywire, who is also back in work and won his heat with some authority. Ridden by James McDonald, the Ciaron Maher trained son of Trapeze Artist jumped from an outside gate and led covering plenty of ground out wide and was hard on the bridle to the line.

As a $520,000 Magic Millions purchase, Spywire is eligible for the $1million Magic Millions National 2YO Classic at Doomben (1050m) on May 25, so could easily pick up another big chunk of MM cash having finished third to Storm Boy in the $3million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast back in January.

Additional winners were: Vinniro (I Am Invincible), Tardelli (I Am Invincible) and Super Nui (Super One).
