Telemon Thoroughbreds Announce 2024 Fees

Media Release - Tuesday May 14

It takes a very rare and special stallion to consistently produce early maturing, hardy horses that can rise to the top as 2YOs and the Telemon Thoroughbreds roster is headed this year by two stallions with that sought after ability that will allow breeders to target Australia’s best incentive scheme, QTIS.

A rising star of the Queensland stallion ranks, SUN CITY has made an amazing impression with his first runners. At the time of writing this stunning young son of ZOUSTAR boasts an incredible four winners from his first eight starters: three of these have been pre-Christmas, and two have been at Saturday metropolitan level with Mishani Eclipse and Mishani Suspect both banking over $100,000 in prizemoney.

SUN CITY boasts a pedigree and profile dripping with early maturing speed and that is exactly what he has delivered. SUN CITY ($8,800 inc GST, PLF) is perfect for the best incentive scheme in the country, QTIS.

The market has recognised his appeal with his 2024 yearlings selling to $130,000 and given his profile SUN CITY is an option for both commercial and breed to race participants.

Joining SUN CITY at the head of our roster is the tried and true performer SIDESTEP ($8,800 inc GST, pay on live foal). He represents terrific value and is one of a select group of stallions with a proven ability to throw 2YOs and in season 2023/24 he has confirmed his standing as a leading 3YO sire.

Closer examination of his stud career reveals he has only had the benefit of meaningful numbers twice. His first crop yielded six  individual 2YO winners placing him 4th on the Australian 2YO Sires premiership of that year and crowning him Champion First Season Sire of Australia with his progeny headed by Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi.

Last season he managed a super impressive nine 2YO winners from just 30 runners across Australia and NZ including Group II Blue Diamond Prelude runner up PARTY FOR TWO and NQ record breaker ROWEINERS DANCE.

He ended the season ahead of the likes of STREET BOSS and WRITTEN TYCOON with a strike rate that compares favourably to Queensland’s benchmark stallions Spirit of Boom and Better Than Ready.

The Odyssey, click for more info and a Hypo mating.

“The King of QTIS”, THE ODYSSEY has blown us all away with the quality of his first foals. He is an extremely good looking, durable, early maturing horse with an exceptional temperament and he had the ability to handle all surfaces. Like his father BETTER THAN READY, he has exceptional fertility, stamps his stock and is homozygous. THE ODYSSEY raced from the first 2YO meeting of his juvenile season through to the culmination of a career yielding no fewer than 10 wins and $1.7M in earnings.

We believe he is an outstanding value option given his sire BETTER THAN READY has broken through to become a sire of national significance. THE ODYSSEY ($5,500 inc GST, PLF) covered a much larger book in his second season compared to his first off the back of the outstanding quality of his first foals.

Breeders would be well advised to visit the farm and inspect this stallion’s now weanlings which will make a massive impression at next year’s sales.

Jungle Cat (IRE), click for more info and a Hypo mating.

Rounding out our roster for 2024 and “the smokey in the ranks” is dual G1 winning sprinter JUNGLE CAT. For breeders with a more patient mentality, JUNGLE CAT ($4,950 inc GST, PLF) just might be the best value stallion in the land.

An absolutely elite sprinter, this horse has made an excellent start with his first, small crop just completing their 3yo season and his current group of 2YOs creating a massive impression on their trainers and connections.

He had a super impressive debut winner last Saturday in the Proven Thoroughbreds colour bearer Zatanna, who bolted in at Ipswich to win by six and three-quarter lengths.

A $95,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft for Proven Thoroughbreds/O'Dea Hoysted Racing, Zatanna looks to have a very bright future.

JUNGLE CAT is poised to make a real impact over the next 12 months as these horses continue to mature, and we have set his fee at a level to reward breeders playing the long game on one of the best sprinters to stand in Queensland.

If you would like to view any or all of our stallions we would love to host you: simply reach out.

We think we have a stallion roster that has an option for every breeder whether you are aiming for a carnival superstar or a QTIS winner at your local racetrack.
