Bowness Stud Confirm D'Argento Fee

Media Release - Tuesday May 14

After standing for $16,500 (inc. GST) last season, Group 1 winner D’Argento (So You Think) will remain at the same fee for the upcoming breeding season, with live foal payments terms applying.

From just a handful of runners to date, D’Argento has been represented by two impressive winners who have both gone on to record stakes placing’s at their second starts and hold nominations for both the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

David Payne’s smart filly Rag Queen who was too classy on debut at Canterbury where she settled back in the field before charging home at a rate of knots to win over 1100m before showing the same late acceleration to go down by three-quarters of a length when finishing third in the lucrative $2m Restricted Listed Inglis 2YO Millennium at just her second ever start.

Showing a similar profile, the Toby Edmonds-trained Silva ‘N’ Suave was too classy for his rivals on debut, pulling clear to win by three lengths at the Gold Coast.

Jumping considerably in class second time out, the grey gelding settled handy in the run and battled all the way to the line to finish second in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast.

“We’re really excited by what D’Argento’s first crop are doing on the track so far. Both Rag Queen and Silva ‘N’ Sauve have started their careers in fine form, and it’s pleasing to note that both were bred on the farm and sold through our yearling drafts last year,” stated Studmaster James Daly.

“While D’Argento was an unbeaten 2yo himself, we have always expected to see his progeny really develop during their Classic season just like their sire did, so we can’t wait to see what next season brings.”

A winner of the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas at 3, just like Group 1-producing sires The Autumn Sun, Tarzino and Dundeel, D’Argento’s current crop yearlings outsold his first crop, and with the likes of Hawkes Racing, Suman Hedge Bloodstock, Williams Racing,  Star Thoroughbreds, Randwick Bloodstock, Shaun Ritchie, Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, DGR Thoroughbreds and Brad Widdup having secured a yearling from either his first or second crop, D’Argento’s progeny are sure to get every chance.

With 11 yearlings by D’Argento catalogued at the upcoming Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast as part of the Bowness Stud draft, buyers will get their chance to secure what is likely to be the last opportunity this year to purchase a yearling from his current crop.
