Epsom Derby Contender for Camelot

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 13

One Classic trial that did go to plan was the Group III Cashel Palace Derby Trial (1m2f) at Leopardstown with undefeated Camelot colt Los Angeles staying that way in his seasonal return.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan, Los Angeles was doing his best work on the line to win by a length and is now 8-1 for the Epsom Derby.

Los Angeles won a Tipperary maiden last year and then went to France to win the Group I Criterium de Saint Cloud at just his second start.

“He’s come along with every run. He’s got the pedigree – he’s by Camelot so he’ll get the stamina. Everything is there for him. When we step him up again to a mile and a half the distance will help him and he’s going to come on a lot fitness wise for it,” said stable representative Chris Armstrong.
“He’s a big horse. He’s a beautiful mover, he’s got the right mind as you’ll have seen when he walked round the paddock beforehand when he was absolutely chilled.

“He’s got the same attitude at home. Camelot obviously went round there no problem and a lot of his good sire traits are in this horse. He can travel away but I think the big improvement will be when he goes up to the mile and a half.

“It’s his first run in a year and he still hasn’t really been tightened up but once he goes up in trip he’ll go on again.”

A homebred for the Coolmore partners, Los Angeles has two full Group placed siblings in Hector de Maris and Be Happy and is from an unraced half-sister to Group III winner Impulsif. His third dam Allez Les Trois produced Group I winner Anabaa Blue and is a half-sister to Arc winning blue hen Urban Sea.
