Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 29
Five juvenile heats at Randwick on Friday morning produced some interesting winners, but none more so than Magic Millions contender Nomothaj, who sported blinkers for the first time.

Flemington SW Nomothaj is ready for the MM 2YO Classic - Grant CourtneyTrained by the Hayes/ Dabernig partnership, Nomothaj won the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial in the spring beating last weekend’s impressive Gold Coast winner Sunlight, who is now on the third line of betting for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Nomothaj has not raced since her debut victory, but was given a soft trial at Rosehill on December 22 when she followed them around for fourth beaten five lengths.

Fitted with blinkers for today’s 1045 metre gallop, the daughter of Snitzel was asked to be a racehorse and duly obliged.

She began fairly for Jason Collett and settled midfield covering ground before surging up to the leaders after turning for home.

Shaken up at the furlong, she kicked away and was eased on the line to win by two lengths and will be heading to the $2million MM 2YO Classic first up from her summer break.

Nomothaj was a $420,000 Magic Millions purchase for Shadwell from the Newgate Farm draft and is the first winner for Group III winning juvenile Real Stolle, whose yearling colt by Exceed and Excel has been entered for Inglis Easter by Newgate Farm.

Other two year-old trial winners were Premier Rose (Redoute’s Choice), Angiolini (All Too Hard), Excelctic (Excelebration (IRE)) and Patron Black (Patronize), click here for all the trial results this morning at Randwick.
