'Sun'thing for Everyone in Middlebrook Valley Weanling Draft

Media Release - Wednesday May 1

Middlebrook Valley Lodge will once again present a stellar draft at the Inglis Weanling Sale this week, one that contains weanlings by a couple of sires that can do no wrong at the moment.

“With a smaller draft of eight, we’ve really been able to give them the attention they need, and focus on ensuring that no stone has been left unturned during the preparation,” said MVL Sales & Bloodstock Manager Bernie Kane.

“Given that the yearling market this year has seen strong competition for quality horses and the weanling market will more than likely follow suit, I’m really happy with how this draft will present and the team at the farm have done a great job with them.”

With the draft all presented on behalf of Mark Taylor’s Tamac Farm, Kane was very happy with how they’ve come along during the prep.

“Mark sent us the horses in great condition, and all of them have thrived during the preparation. They’ve all been well educated at Tamac Farm and have been so easy to do anything with during the prep, so it’s made our job very straight-forward in that respect,” Kane said.

"With a couple of fillies by the red-hot The Autumn Sun who has sired two G1 Oaks winners in the last couple of weeks, and a colt by G1 Sires Produce winner Manaal’s sire in Tassort, the draft really has something for everyone."

“The two fillies by The Autumn Sun should be on everyone’s list. Both lovely fillies, Lot 204 has a sprinting type of pedigree being out of the two-time winning I Am Invincible mare Skillet, she looks the type that will develop into an early sale yearling next year.

"On the other hand, Lot 253 is out of the winning Savabeel mare Touchabeel, and has all the makings of developing into more a staying type of filly, and with fillies by The Autumn Sun really making their mark over the Classic trip in the last few weeks, she really fits into that category.”

In addition to those must-see fillies, there are also colts by Tassort, North Pacific & Capitalist that will all have their admirers.

“The Tassort colt is out of a winning Stratum mare, and is very typical of what the stallion has produced so far. Big, strong and with plenty of bone, he’ll certainly turn a few heads on the complex. The North Pacific colt is out of a Redoute’s Choice mare and is from the family of G1 Golden Slipper winners Merlene and Capitalist, and he looks like a colt that could really develop into a cracking yearling."

"The Capitalist colt is just a lovely horse in general, with good size and strength and all the attributes of the sire, and since the catalogue has gone to print, the mare’s first foal is now a winner. The mare is a winner herself and is a half-sister to G1 Levin Classic winner Hall of Fame, so it’s a family on the move.”

There are fillies by Acrobat, Dubious & Time Test as well, and whilst they are all nice horses in their own right, the Acrobat filly is a favourite of Kane’s.

“I really like this filly. From when she got off the truck before I knew which weanling she was which -she stood out! She’s a lovely filly, with good bone, good size, a lovely walk, and most importantly the best attitude. We had a couple of foals by Acrobat on farm during the season, and they were cracking foals and she’s certainly on par with them,” Kane said.

“We’re really looking forward to presenting these weanlings on behalf of Mark, and I’m sure they’ll be well-received by the buying bench. As the headline says, there really is something in the draft for everyone, and we’ll be ready to present them first thing Thursday morning in Barn F.”
