Metro Double for Promising Pierro Fillies

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 25

Pierro enjoyed a two state metro double on ANZAC Day with a pair of talented three year-old fillies saluting at Flemington and Randwick.

The Lindsay Park racing team have always had a good opinion of Poifect, who won her debut at Geelong last June and was then stakes placed at Caulfield at her second start in the spring. Out of the placings in two subsequent runs in Group II company, Poifect was then sent for a spell and looks a stronger filly this time around.

She was second first up at Sandown on April 1 and then stepped up to 1400m for a Benchmark 70 event on Thursday and forged clear to win by a length.

“We were really pleased with her first up run, but she just ran into one better on the day,” said co-trainer Ben Hayes.

“The way she trained on, the extra 200m and a good ride from Michael Dee really helped her today and it’s nice to see her win as she’s always been a filly that we’ve had a high opinion of.

“She’s taken time to show her best, but hopefully now we can look to go to South Australia and target a nice race over there and we can have some fun with her.”

Poifect was a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Lindsay Park Racing and is the best of four winners from winning Flying Spur mare Without Exception, a sibling to Group III winner Krupt and stakes-winner Anevay tracing back to legendary matriarch Fanfreluche via the Grand Luxe branch of the family.

Without Exception had a yearling filly by So You Think sell for $120,000 at Inglis Easter this year to Amanda Turner Racing and produced a colt by Acrobat last spring before being covered by Yes Yes Yes.

Pierro made it a double when the Chris Waller trained Pierro filly Bright Red kept the winning run going for Debbie Kepitis and Woppitt Bloodstock.

Yet another successful racehorse foaled and raised at Coolmore for Kepitis and her family, Bright Red made it two wins from her past three starts when taking out the Benchmark 72 event over 1550m by half a length.

Bright Red is the second winner from Group III placed Redoute’s Choice mare All Cerise, a half-sister to Group I winner Mission Critical and Group II winner Brilliant Light.

All Cerise delivered a colt last year by Yes Yes Yes and is in foal to Wootton Bassett (GB).
