One to Watch – Sale

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 23

The Sale meeting on Tuesday had some excitement to start the program when a three year-old filly by champion sire I Am Invincible blitzed her rivals to win as she pleased.

Having her second race start, the Gavin Bedggood trained Mrs Supergrass improved sharply on her close up debut third last month, accelerating impressively over the final furlong to open up and win the 1100m maiden by nearly five lengths as favourite.

“She’s a filly that has possessed a lot of ability along the way, but does not have the cleanest legs, so we’ve had to manage her,” revealed Gavin Bedggood.

“She went to the water walker for a couple weeks of weeks post that last run and she’s pretty much had one gallop leading into this, so if we can get her anywhere near her best she will be a force to be reckoned with going forward.”

A $500,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Bahen Bloodstock, Mrs Supergrass was bred by Morning Rise Stud and is the first foal of Group III winning Star Witness mare Crown witness, a daughter of South African Group I winner Noble Heir.

Crown Witness died last year and her only other foal is a rising two year-old filly by I Am Invincible that was passed in at Inglis Premier by Morning Rise Stud and retained to race. She has been named Lady Invictus.
