Material Dreams Wins H C Nitschke Stakes - First Stakes Winner for Lean Mean Machine

Mark Smith - Sunday April 21

The Nick Ryan-trained Material Dreams triumphed in a battle of the favourites in Saturday’s Listed H C Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville to credit Aquis Farm’s Lean Mean Machine with his first stakes-winner.

Well back in the field in the early stages, Material Dreams came with a sweeping run under Jacob Opperman to be in a challenging position on the home turn. Robert Anderson’s royally-bred Zoustar filly Miss Aria had enjoyed a dream run but she could not hold off the black daughter of Lean Mean Machine.

The unlucky runner of the race was the imported Camelot filly Spirit Of Camelot (IRE), which only found clear air in the closing stages and rattled home for third.

Material Dreams was coming off a luckless fourth behind Inhibtions at Caulfield when caught wide the trip.

A $55,000 purchase for Greg Lewis from the Collingrove Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Material Dreams advances her record to five wins from ten starts with earnings of $195,895.

Bred by Rob Dunnett, Material Dreams is the first winner for the Darci Brahma mare Lincoln's Sunset.

A winner at Woodville and Awapuni, Lincoln's Sunset was purchased by Dunnett’s Equine Ventures Pty Ltd for $10,100 at the 2020 Cornerstone Unreserved Reduction Online Sale.

She is a sister to Australian Hurdle winner Westsouthwest, who placed in the Group 1 Queensland Derby and Group 1 South Australian Derby, and to Aurora Lights, who was third in the Group 1 NZ Oaks.

Lincoln's Sunset has a yearling filly by Rubick. After foaling a Royal Meeting (IRE) filly last spring, she was covered by Lean Mean Machine but missed.

The winner of the Group II ATC The Run to the Rose and Group II BRC Sires' Produce Stakes, Lean Mean Machine (Zoustar), stood for $13,200 at Aquis Farm last year.
