Unsold Arrowfield yearlings frequently find their way into the care of Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich and the pair produced a promising debut winner for The Autumn Sun at Scone on Tuesday.
Three year-old filly In Summer was passed in shy of her $300,000 reserve at Inglis Easter, but set about repaying the faith placed in her when showing plenty of talent and courage to win first up in the 1100m maiden.
In Summer is a half-sister to South African stakes-winner Traces and Group III placed Spring Loaded and is the fourth winner from Traceability, an unraced half-sister to Group I winners Master of Design and Suntagonal with her third dam the blue hen Princess Tracy (IRE), whose descendants include Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy and seven time G1 winenr and $8million earner Alligator Blood.
Arrowfield sold a Snitzel yearling filly from Traceability at Inglis Easter this year for $500,000 to Cambridge Stud reflecting the high regard in which this family is held.
Traceability is in foal to Maurice (Jpn) after having a year off.
In Summer is the 31st winner this season for The Autumn Sun, who is basking in the glory of siring his first G1 winner last weekend when Autumn Angel took out a vintage edition of the Group I ATC Australian Oaks beating VRC Oaks winner Zardozi and NZ Oaks winner Orchestral.
