One to Watch – Doomben

Pierro has had a great run through December siring nine winners including this promising three year-old, who scored with authority at Doomben on Wednesday and has stakes goals on the horizon.

Prepared by Barry Lockwood, talented gelding Cruze was a last start fourth to another star Pierro performer Pierata in the $100,000 BRC Winning Rupert Plate on December 2 when resuming from a spell.

Cruze as a yearlingThat good showing saw him start favourite in the Benchmark 65 event over 1350 metres and he duly won in good style by a length and a half.

"He’s a horse that will ultimately get over more ground, so it was a good effort,” said Barry Lockwood, who is looking towards the rich Magic Millions raceday next month.

"If he gets a run we’ll go to the Vo Rogue (Group III December 30) and then if he has enough money the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.”

A $50,000 Magic Millions purchase for Storm Creek from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Cruze was bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds and has won two of four starts.

He is the first winner for Alessandra, a Fastnet Rock three-quarter sister to Group I BRC Queensland Derby winner Dariana from a family that features far too many European Group I winners to name them all!

Segenhoe graduates had a great day on the track with an earlier success at Canterbury for We Have Lift Off and another Doomben win for I Am Impinge, who is part-owned by Segenhoe.
