Bold Bastille Back on Track

Mark Smith - Saturday March 2

A facile winner on debut of the $500,000 Inglis Banner (RL) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day, defeating Hayasugi, Bold Bastille disappointed as a short-priced favourite behind the future Blue Diamond winner in the Group II Blue Diamond Prelude.

The daughter of Brazen Beau was back on her pedestal in the Listed Furphy Trophy (1000m) at Flemington. With Mark Zahra in the saddle for Ben, Will, and JD Hayes, Bold Bastille was among the fastest to begin and went straight as an arrow down the Flemington straight to defeat the highly regarded Zousain filly Drifting by three-quarters of a length with the Hellbent filly Grinzinger Love two and a quarter lengths back in third.

“It was really nice to see her come out and show everyone that she does have that ability,” Ben Hayes said.

“Just put a line through her first up run, she was going into it a little bit underdone following a couple of setbacks. We had a clear run into this race, back to 1000m she jumped, she travelled beautifully, what I liked is the spacings, huge spacings from second to third, and she’s shown she’s a high class two-year-old.

“There’s races like the 1200 (metres) down the straight called the Breeders, in two weeks there’s a Redoute’s Choice; they’re all options we can look at with her, but first we’ll see how she pulls up and come up with a plan, but it’s good to get some nice black type, twice, and we’re thrilled.

“Sydney is a possibility; we need to have a discussion with the whole ownership group.

A $270,000 purchase for Lindsay Park Racing / Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) from the Blue Gum Farm draft at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Bold Bastille is the third winner from five to race for the Exceed And Excel mare Chloe In Paris.

The winner of the Listed VRC Bob Hoysted Handicap, Chloe In Paris is a half-sister to Ideas Man (Brazen Beau) and Charleston Dancer (Lonhro), the dam of She Dances (Street Boss), who, besides her win the Chautauqua Stakes, captured the Group III Northwood Plume Stakes.

This family has clicked with Brazen Beau as Chloe In Paris’ half-sister Original Choice (Redoute's Choice), is the dam of Listed winner and VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up Larimer Street (Brazen Beau).

A daughter of Des Pope’s top-class Rubiton mare Innovation Girl, Chloe In Paris has a yearling brother to Bold Bastille, which was withdrawn from the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

After missing in 2022, Chloe In Paris was covered by Anamoe in September.
