Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

There were five heats for juveniles at Randwick on Thursday morning and the winners included a couple of high profile colts in the Yulong colours, while the first appearance this year for Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Ozzmosis was well worth watching.

The Bjorn Baker trained Zoustar colt has only been beaten once in five starts and looked ready to pick up where he left off with a stylish win over another exciting Zoustar colt in Schwarz, who ended his spring with a dominant stakes win at Flemington in Listed grade.

Also lurking back in the field was Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, given a quiet time and working to the line on the fence under a hold.

Both Ozzmosis and Schwarz have siblings entered for Inglis Easter so their vendors will be cheering these guys on during the autumn.

Lot 181 is the Wootton Bassett (GB) half-brother to Ozzmosis offered by The Chase and Lot 328 from Widden Stud is a full brother to Schwarz, albeit this fellow is chestnut.

There were two heats for juveniles run at 1050m and both were won by Peter and Paul Snowden trained colts in the Yulong colours.

Zoustar colt After Match improved at his second trial to beat his stablemate Strong Trade by half a length with both colts coming out of the same previous trial on February 12 won by Straight Charge, who runs in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper on Saturday.

A $410,000 Magic Millions purchase from Segenhoe, After Match is the half-brother to dual Group I winner King’s Legacy, whose first yearlings are selling this year.

Written Tycoon colt Media World had one start in the spring for a fifth in the Listed MRC Merson Cooper Stakes won by Eneeza and was having his first outing since then. He ran more than a second quicker than After Match and beat a city winner in Photographics with a strong late finish.

At $1.4million, Media World was the highest priced Written Tycoon yearling sold in 2023 and has a three-quarter brother by Capitalist to be offered by Fairview Park Stud at Inglis Easter as Lot 145.

There were also three heats run over 737m won by the following unraced youngsters: Inoue (c Shalaa (IRE), Killcare Beachgirl (f Too Darn Hot (GB) and Manuscript (c Written By).
