One to Watch - Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 3
Pierro posted his fourth winner in three days with a debut victory at Newcastle on Sunday for a three year-old gelding who carries the same colours as his sire.

Amanito as a yearlingAn $85,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for De Burgh Equine, Amanito runs for Greg and Donna Kolivos and is prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden.

Unplaced at four previous trials, Amanito was easy in the market drifting to start at $9.

He settled near the tail of the field for Tye Angland and looked like he might stay there until switched wide into clear ground after turning for home.

He gradually picked up pace all the way to the line, hitting top gear in the last furlong to score a head win in the 1300 metre maiden.

Bred at Ascot Park by Bob Hannon and partners, Amanito (pictured as a foal in 2014) is a half-brother to stakes-placed Conscious and is the second winner from Group III placed Fastnet Rock mare Elimbari, a three-quarter sister to Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream.

Elimbari has a yearling filly by I Am Invincible and produced a colt foal this spring by Vancouver.

Amanito continues a hot run for Pierro following on from Saturday successes for Pierata and Perfect Pitch, plus a Friday night win for Aecee Tong De.

Leading into the 2018 yearling sale season Pierro has clearly stamped himself as the leading Australian Second Crop Sire with over $2.1 million in seasonal earnings.

Pierro has 17 yearlings for Magic Millions and nine for Inglis Classic.
