Juvenile Trial Watch - Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 15

Five heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Thursday morning featured some interesting winners including Golden Slipper favourite Storm Boy in explosive form and an unraced Snitzel colt trained by Chris Waller was an eye-catcher.

A brilliant winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic last month, Justify (USA) colt Storm Boy powered through his 900m heat winning by six lengths in 53.47 seconds, the quickest of the morning.

James McDonald had his first ride on the colt in this trial and will replace Adam Hyeronimus when he lines up in the Group ATC Skyline Stakes on March 9, which is expected to be his only lead up run to the Golden Slipper.

Storm Boy was not the only son of Justify to win a heat with the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained colt Just Party scoring a strong two and a half length win at his second trial appearance in the 1030m heat.

A $110,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Coolmore for his trainers, Just Party is a half-brother to Group III placed Petition and to the dam of this season’s Kiwi trained Group II winning juvenile Bellatrix Star being from Group I winner The Party Stand from the family four-time dual Group I winner Callsign Mav.

Chris Waller already has a Golden Slipper possible contender in Snitzel colt Switzerland and could have another in unraced Gatsby’s, who showed good improvement from his first trial to his second to steam home under a hold and win by half a length.

A $220,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery Stud for Aramco Racing, Gatsby’s is the full brother to Group II winner Letzbeglam and stakes-placed Snazz ‘n’ Charm from blue-blood import Miss Charming (USA), a half-sister by Forestry to Group I winner Tout Charmont.

Other 2YO heat winners were: Marais (Capitalist) and LimahuIi (Street Boss (USA).
