Aurora's Symphony in a Class of his Own in Hobart Cup

The winner of the last two Launceston Cups, Aurora's Symphony kept his perfect Tasmanian record intact with a track-record-breaking win in Sunday's $300,000 Group III Ladbrokes Hobart Cup (2400m).

Under his top weight of 59.5 kgs, the 7-year-old son of Glass Harmonium (IRE) powered home under Jordan Childs to defeat Wyclif (GB) (Archipenko) by two and three-quarter lengths with Grand Pierro (Pierro) back in third.

Coming off a win over 2000m at Flemington, the Symon Wilde-trained stayer advances his record to ten wins, six seconds, and six thirds from 39 starts with earnings of $976,515.

Aurora's Symphony is likely to attempt a record-equalling third consecutive Launceston Cup.

"It worked out perfectly for us," Childs said.

"There was good speed early, and he got into a nice spot. I was able to pop off the fence going past the winning post the first time, and he got into a lovely rhythm. I was able to buid into it, and when I let him go, he quickened up.

"Simon and the team have this horse flying.

"He had a big weight, and his form had been good, winning at Flemington before coming here.

"Next time, he should be hard to beat again. He is a big, strong horse, and the weight should not affect him too much."

A $40,000 purchase by Wilde Racing from the Blue Gum Farm draft at the 2018 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, Aurora's Symphony is a half-brother to stakes-placed Smokin' Val (Valentia).

He is out of the unraced Fantastic Light (IRE) mare Aurora's Hot, a half-sister to Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Niwot (Galileo).

Bought by Meduri Bloodstock for $18,000 at the 2019 Inglis Great Southern Sale, Aurora's Hot has a 2-year-old  colt by Highland Reel (IRE), which was a $12,000 purchase for  Wilde Racing from the Blue Gum Farm draft at the 2023 Inglis Gold Yearling Sale, and a yearling filly by Kermadec.

Not served in 2022, Aurora's Hot was covered by Rubick last spring.

The Group 1 VRC Mackinnon Stakes winner Glass Harmonium (IRE) last covered in 2020. The son of Vergals sired three stakes-winners.
