Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Three heats for two year-olds at Randwick on Thursday morning produced a couple of unraced winners by Trapeze Artist and Written Tycoon and we had a look at Magic Millions Debut winner Too Darn Lizzie, who looked smooth and slick in her first outing since her Gold Coast adventure last month.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Too Darn Lizzie led and controlled her heat to win by a long neck under a hold, running a second quicker over the 742m than her stablemate Johnny the Kid in winning the next.

Zoustar filly Shivermepink finished a close second and was having her third trial, but first this prep, so will be well educated for her debut, while the same can’t be said for Winx’s three-quarter sister Wings of Desire. The Pride of Dubai filly played up at the gates and was slow to leave before settling at the rear where she stayed throughout, although was not asked for much of an effort and things can only improve from here.

Carrying the colours of John Singleton, Trapeze Artist colt Johnny the Kid did a good job in his first trial, travelling on the pace and surging to the line to win by three-quarters of a length over Fortians, who is in the same colours and has been gelded since his unplaced debut last October.

A $120,000 Magic Millions purchase from Widden Stud, Johnny the Kid is from stakes-winning juvenile I Got Chills, who has had seven winners from seven to race and it’s hard not to think this guy won’t be number eight.

One heat was run at the longer 1050m with the winner being unraced Written Tycoon colt Yoshinobu from the Annabel Neasham stable, who led all the way to win by a couple of lengths at his second trial. Russian Revolution’s expensive brother Everybody Rise was given an educational trial to settle and finished third.

A $550,000 Magic Millions purchase from Segenhoe, Yoshinobu is a half-brother to stakes-winner Pretty in Pink, who is the dam of Shivermepink, who finished second in the Too Darn Lizzie trial.
