Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 5

Four heats for the two year-olds at Rosehill on Monday morning with a couple of the big banger colts from the Waterhouse Bott stable winning their heats in Espionage and Shangri La Express, while an unraced Trapeze Artist filly with a baldy face was an eye-catcher.

Espionage won the G3 Breeders Plate and two of the colts behind him Prost and Fearless ran the quinella in the G3 Canonbury last Saturday - image Steve Hart.

Last seen winning the Group III ATC Breeders Plate in the spring, $1million Zoustar colt Espionage was given a very quiet trial last month when finishing sixth to his stablemate Prost, who came out and won the Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes last Saturday. He was asked for more of an effort this time and was up on the pace before quickening to the line to win by the best part of a length in the quickest time (53.76) of these three juvenile heats at 900m.

Shangri La Express won both of his spring starts including the $1million ATC Golden Gift and was having his second trial here this prep and again led all the way to win with a couple of unraced I Am Invincible colts Enriched and President trialling nicely just behind him.

Shangri La Express has a half-brother by Written Tycoon entered for Inglis Classic in the Yulong draft as Lot 674.

Lot 674

A homebred for Pam and Rob Crosby, who had a lot of success with her mother Dawn Dawn, Trapeze Artist filly Fly Fly was having her second trial and won again with another stylish effort. Trained by Team Hawkes as was her Group II winning dam, Fly Fly was allowed to settle early and when angled wide she surged to the lead out wide.

Fly Fly is the first foal of Dawn Dawn, who was also bred and raced by the Crosby’s. She has been given every chance to succeed at stud and has a fillies to follow by The Autumn Sun and Wootton Bassett (GB) and is now in foal to Anamoe

There was one earlier heat over the longer 1030m trip with the James Cummings trained Blue Point (IRE) colt Photograph winning that one.
