Top bets from Brad Waters for Saturday August 5

Brad Waters - Saturday August 5

They only ran four races last Saturday but they were enough to produce a frustrating day's punting from which I'd love to bounce back at Flemington on Saturday.

We'll have plenty in our picnic baskets if Yogi can get the money at Flemington.

YOGI (FLEMINGTON - Race 6 No 7)
This bloke has raced in terrific form in his four runs this time in and is ready for the step to 2500m here. He was an impressive winner in two BM70 races at Sandown before hitting the line well when beaten a length over 2100m in BM78 grade last time. He looked like he was wanting a bit further last time as he took time to wind up before closing well. John Allen takes over aboard Yogi on Saturday and he'll be hard to toss again in this company.

GOLD FIELDS (Flemington – Race 7 No 5)
There was a lot to like about the way Gold Fields went about his work when a solid winner at Sandown last time out. He put himself into the race and sprinted well to score a decisive win over Mulinello, who will run in an earlier race at Flemington so you'll get a guide to the merit of the form. Gold Fields will be fitter again for that run and getting onto firmer footing won't be an issue here as three of his four wins have been on good ground. The 1600m seems to be the key to him with his two city wins being over that trip, including a victory over subsequent Group I winner He's Our Rokkii over the mile in March last year. Play him each-way.

AMOVATIO (Flemington – Race 8 No 2)
Amovatio hasn't won for more than a year but he gets his chance to change that at Flemington. He was luckless when returning to Melbourne at Moonee Valley on June 17 before hitting the line well when narrowly beaten by the smart Tasmanian Tshahitsi in a brutally run Winter Championship Final on July 7. He has had four weeks since that run but there's no doubt the Waller stable will have him ready to run well on Saturday.

RICH LUCK (Flemington – Race 9 No 6)
A lightly-raced five-year-old, Rich Luck has won five of his seven starts to earn his crack at a Flemington race on Saturday. He won his first two starts in impressive fashion last time in before pulling up with a problem at Moonee Valley in February but he resumed with another strong win in BM78 grade at Geelong on July 16. Trainer Matt Laurie has been patient with the son of Danerich and that gentle handling could pay off on Saturday. He steps up to BM84 grade for the first time on Saturday but the $12 makes it worthwhile to have something on him and find out whether he's good enough to handle the class rise.
BET: WIN
ODDS $12 @ Ladbrokes, Luxbet, Bookmaker, Bet365, Betstar
