The Hope of the Team, Blue Book Remains Undefeated

Mark Smith - Saturday November 25

As the lone foal from in his sire's seventh crop seventh crop, Blue Book carries the weight of expectation but he is up to the challenge, keeping his record at a perfect two for two when leading all the way in a two-year-old handicap over 1200m at Doomben on Saturday.

Ridden by Jeff Lloyd for trainer Kelly Doughty, Blue Book was sent off a short-priced favourite on the strength of his debut win over 1100 metres on the same track on November 11.

There was little concern for supporters as Blue Book led at every call and despite shortening stride in the last 50 metres had enough in hand to defeat Miss Sara (Mahisara) by one and a quarter length, her third consecutive placing, with Grim Reaper (Domesday) the same distance back in third.

"He's tall big and strong for his age and you could only expect him to improve, Doughty said.

"He isn't a Magic Millions horses so there's no need to rush him. I even rang up to see if there was a wild card race for the Millions but there isn't one for the two-year-old race."

Blue Book is a son on Denmarket, a much-travelled son of Lord Dane, who was among the top two-year old's in the west in 2005 winning the Group III WATC Sires' Produce Stakes and Listed Supremacy Stakes.

Sent east to be trained by Gerald Ryan, Denmarket downed Stratum in the Group II Tatt's NSW Roman Consul Stakes.

He has battled for support throughout his stud career with just three live foals in his first crop and four in his second.

In fact, Denmarket has a total of 51 live foals in his seven crops.

He covered just one mare last season, which was Blue Book's dam Blue White (Monashee Mountain), who has remained a faithful companion to Denmarket in her six seasons at stud.
