Insurrection Wins Listed Canterbury Sprint – Half Brother for MM 2024

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 1

Talented Russian Revolution gelding Insurrection won five races in 2023 and kicked off 2024 in a winning vein claiming his first Black Type victory in the $200,000 Listed ATC Canterbury Sprint (1200m) on New Year’s Day.

Trained by Michael Freedman, Insurrection was second at his most recent run in early December in the Listed ATC Razor Sharp Stakes to Recommendation and was able to turn the tables on that sprinter this time around.

The four year-old has formed a great partnership with Zac Lloyd and ridden with a sit this time he was able to overhaul his rival and win by a length running away.

"He was superb today," Lloyd said.

"It was the best he has ever relaxed and with the turn-of-foot, he still needed luck but he was super."

A $150,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Ascot Park draft for Darby Racing / Will Johnson Bloodstock, Insurrection has the impressive record of seven wins and eight placings from 20 starts with prizemoney topping $800,000.

He was bred by Bob Hannon and is the first winner for Marple Miss, a metro winning three-quarter sister to Cox Plate winning Group I sire Shamus Award.
Lot 921 - Hellbent half-brother to Insurrection.

The current yearling from Miss Marple is a colt by Hellbent that will be offered by Attunga Stud as agent at Magic Millions as Lot 921.

Insurrection is the ninth stakes-winner for Newgate Farm's Russian Revolution, who has strong representation at Magic Millions with 27 entries.
