Fleet Footed Redzel Powers Home in Darley Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday November 11
Snitzel gelding Redzel left no doubt he is the top seed among the sprinters with another dominant performance in Saturday's $1 million Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington and it's becoming terrifying just how much he will bank for connections by the time his racing days are over.

With the Everest set to rise to $13 million next year and $15 million by 2020, defending champion Redzel has already earned $7,797,750 from a record of 11 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 21 starts.

With his sixth consecutive win the son of Snitzel is now within spitting distance of the $7,953,936 earned by the undefeated champion Black Caviar who included the 2011 Darley Classic (then known as the Patinack Classic) among her 15 Group 1 wins.

The field split into two divisions down the straight but it was soon clear that the outside led by Redzel had the advantage and the first five across the line came down the outside rail.

"He is an unassuming horse and I am surprised where he has got too but he has taken all before him now," McEvoy said.

"He is racing with great heart and his record is fantastic.

"He is just getting better and better and that is all due to the fact that the Snowdens and the Triple Crown boys are patient and they are reaping the rewards now.

"He has a good cruising speed, we had it nice through the first furlong and were going good fractions from the 900m onwards.

"I pressed the button at the 400 he was too strong for them again.

"He is as adaptable down the straight as he is around a corner.

"He is a great little horse and I'm rapt to be a part of his career.

"The last win was fantastic and it is great to bring him here during the big week and get a win as well.

"You cherish these wins."

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Redze, at five years of age,l has plenty of racing left in him.

"I thought he proved he was the best sprinter in Australia with his win in the Everest. He keeps proving all the doubters wrong," Peter Snowden said.

"It's all about the horse. He is so easy to train, he does everything you ask.

"What we found is that you have to space his runs and give him an easy time between runs and he comes back to life again.

"The owners said they would like to have another go at The Everest, he keeps getting more and more money so there's no need to travel when there's so much money here in Australia.

"He's a 5yo so hopefully he stays sound and there are another two or three years left in him."

A $120,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the draft of Marquee Stud at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Redzel is the tenth living foal and second stakes-winner, after the Group III winner Danerich, for the former top-class Rubiton mare Millrich.

Winner of the Group III Sweet Embrace Stakes, Millrich was placed in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group II Silver Shadow Stakes, Group II Magic Night Stakes and Group II San Domenico Stakes.

A sister to the dam of the talented El Roca (Fastnet Rock) Millrich died three weeks after foaling Redzel.
