Exceed And Excel Blueblood Opens Account at the Valley

Mark Smith - Friday December 15

Nick Wakim’s Hilldene Farn shelled out $750,000 for the Frankel mare Dream In Colour (GB) at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, but unfortunately, Wakim was not on track when her Exceed And Excel daughter Exceed The Dream broke her maiden over 1200m at Moonee Valley on Friday.

Ridden by visiting Irish apprentice Dylan Browne McMonagle for Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, Exceed The Dream came with a sweeping run to defeat the I Am Invincible filly Indaza by two and a quarter lengths with the Capitalist mare Kiko three-qiuarters of a length back in third.

David Eustace said Nick Wakim missed the race due to illness.

“It’s a real shame because he is very passionate, breeds his own and has put a lot of money into the game and his farm,” Eustice said.

“It’s great to get a result for him. A city winning mare with a beautiful pedigree, and he has put a lot of faith in the stable, so he really deserves it.

Exceed The Dream was making just her second start for the leading stable, following a second at Ararat on November 27.

“She came to us in good order, but she has been a bit free. We have mixed up her work across several stables.

“It’s great for Dylan to get another winner because he is a quality young man who works hard at the stable, so it is great to give him the opportunity. He rode a winner last night (at Caulfield) and it is his first winner for us. We have been giving him a bit of stick about riding so many seconds.”

The runner-up Indaza was making just her second start and should break through shortly.

A $900,000 purchase for Kia Ora Stud, the I am Invincible filly has a Farnan half-sister in the Kia Ora Stud draft heading to the Magic Millions.

A sister to Sydney metro winner, $1.1million yearling, Wizard Of Oz, Exceed The Dream is the second winner from as many to race for the unraced Frankel mare Dream In Colour (GB) whose pedigree is instantly recognizable in these parts.

She is a daughter of the Group III winning More Than Ready mare Colour, a half-sister to the dam of Group II Arrowfield Sprint winner Derryn, who was third in the Group 1 Doomben 10000.

From the family of Snippets, Forensics and Not A Single Doubt, Dream In Colour (GB) has an unraced 2-year-old sister to Exceed The Dream and Wizard Of Oz named Rhia in the Maher/Eustice stable and a yearling filly by I Am Invincible.

Dream In Colour (GB) was covered by Extreme Choice in March to Northern Hemisphere time.
