Miss Emma Breaks Through in Style

Placed in her last three starts, the All Too Hard filly Miss Emma scored a long overdue win in The Agency Real Estate Maiden Hcp (1250m) at Canterbury on Friday and did it in a manner that suggests there are better days ahead.

With Tommy Berry controlling the race from the front, Miss Emma was being throttled down over the final 1000m to defeat her Chris Waller-trained stablemate Assemble (Zoustar) by five lengths with Kimono (Press Statement) a half-head back in third.

“She will gain a lot of confidence from that; she’s had a great prep so far and hopefully can springboard off this easy victory,” stable representative Damien Fitton said.

“Tommy suggested after her last stat to put a barrier blanket on, and it paid dividends. She was quick out, and though it was not our intention to lead, there was no speed, so Tommy took the bull by the horns and won the race from the start.”

Miss Emma a $45,000 Magic Millions National Sale yearling

Miss Emma was a $45,000 buy for owner Lily Maley from the KBL Thoroughbreds draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale.

She is the first winner from two to race for the stakes-placed Danasinga mare Espiritu.

From the famed family of Gurner’s Lane and Sovereign Red, Espiritu has a yearling colt by Divine Prophet and was not covered last year.

Miss Emma is the 55th winner of the season for Vinery Stud’s All Too Hard.
