Tassie Treble for Swinging Bachelor

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 10
Little known Tasmanian sire Swinging Bachelor posted a winning treble at Launceston on Wednesday with all three of his winners prepared by Royston Carr.

Three year-old colt The Greatness broke his maiden over 1400 metres and was followed later into the winner's circle by four year-old gelding Goodbye Lonesome and four year-old mare Acronym.

Their success was the source of great delight for Swinging Bachelor's owner Peter Scollard, who stands the son of Royal Academy (USA) at his farm just north of Hobart at Pontville for a fee of $1,000.

Royal Academy is the sire of Swinging Bachelor"I purchased ($5000) him about 11 years ago as I had a few mares and it was cheaper than sending them to stallions," Peter Scollard said.

"He is well bred, being by Royal Academy out of the good mare Campbell Fever, a daughter of Blue Diamond winner Midnight Fever.

"In the 11 years I have had him he has covered less than 50 mares and never any mares of great quality, but he keeps throwing winners.

"A terrific horseman and also a trainer Royston Carr has always liked him and has sent a few of his owner/breeders to him as well, so I'm pleased to see them so well rewarded."

Swinging Bachelor has had 16 runners for an impressive 10 winners.
