Odinson Powers to Victory in Inglis Nursery

Mark Smith - Saturday December 9

A fast-finishing third when on debut in the Group III Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington, the Night Of Thunder (IRE) colt Odinson overcame a wide barrier to capture Saturday’s $500,000 Listed Inglis Nursery at Randwick.

Ridden by Tyler Schiller, Odinson credited Ciaron Maher and David Eustice with their third win in the last four runnings of the feature.

Odinson came with a barnstorming finish to defeat the Cosmic Force debutant Beer Baron by a neck with a length back to the Yes Yes Yes filly Nymphadora, who was doing her best work late.

“He is a beautiful, strong colt; his first start was very good,” stable representative Johann Gerard-Dubord said.

“He jumped better today, but he had to take his medicine to get a bit of cover. Didn’t take the turn that well but was very good late.

“The horse is still fairly immature mentally. He must have a bit of ability.”

A $320,000 purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the Widden Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Odinson is the first foal of the Group III Cornwallis Stakes winner Good Vibes (GB) (Due Diligence).

David Redvers Bloodstock bought Good Vibes (GB) for 390,000 gns on behalf of Qatar Bloodstock at the 2019 Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

Covered by Night Of Thunder to Southern Hemisphere time, Good Vibes landed in Australia in January 2021 and foaled Odinson eight months later.

Widden Stud consigns a Zoustar half-brother to Vibes for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale in January (Lot 722).

Good Vibes foaled another Zoustar colt on October 1.

Odinson is the 43rd stakes-winner for Darley Stud’s one-season shuttler Night Of Thunder.

From that lone crop of 58 live foals came Group 1 BRC Queensland Derby winner Kukeracha, Group II winner Cherry Tortoni, Group III winner A Beautiful Night, and Listed winners Acquitted, Hela, and River Night.

The son of Dubawi stands at Kildangan Stud, Ireland, for €100,000. His Group 1 winning daughter, Highfield Princess, contests Sunday's Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin.
