One To Watch - Gosford

Mark Smith - Thursday December 7

The 4-year-old Extreme Choice mare, Lady Extreme, recently sold as a breeding proposition for little more than a tenth of her yearling price before making an impressive debut over 1000m at Gosford on Thursday.

A $250,000  purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the Attunga Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Lady Extreme sold for $27,5000 on Inglis Digital.

Early in her career, it appeared Lady Extreme would not race as she was cast in her box and displayed what was termed intermittent discomfort in her hindquarters during full training.

Luke Wilkinson took a punt and sent her to Blake Ryan. With Jay Ford in the saddle, Lady Extreme came four-wide on the turn with an impressive turn of foot to defeat the 5-year-old Ribick mare  Hawkwind by a widening two and a quarter lengths with the 3-year-old Starspangledbanner filly Sweet Patriot a half-length back in third.

So, Lady Extreme has repaid $20,500 of her purchase price with the prospect of plenty more to come.

The daughter of Extreme Choice is a sister to Abseiler, who won on debut at Flemington at two and was fourth in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview won by General Beau.

Her dam, Wanted Lady (Wanted), is a half-sister to the Listed winner, Missy Cummings, the dam of the Group 1 winner, Mizzy (Zoustar).

Milburn Creek Stud consigns a brother to Lady Extreme to the Magic Millions in January (lot 349), and at the same sale, Widden Stud offers a three-quarter sister to Mizzy (lot 540).
